Metropolitan University Prague continues to broaden its research activities to ensure the continuous increase in quality of instruction. MUP provides a platform for research centres that hold numerous conferences and specialised seminars every year. The research centres strive to include the students in all their research activities.
The Centre for Middle Eastern Studies is an autonomous academic research centre affiliated with the Department of International Relations and European Studies at Metropolitan University Prague. Since its founding in October 2005, it has successfully committed itself to educating and informing both students and the public about the contemporary Middle East and contributing to a fruitful discussion about this region. CMES focuses on social, political, cultural, and economic affairs in the Middle East and North Africa. Many activities have already taken place, and many more exciting events are in the works for each academic year. CMES activities include: specialised conferences, round-table discussions, seminars, and academic courses. In its scientific activities, CMES is committed to balanced, dispassionate, and objective research.
The Center for Security Studies was established on 1 January 2009. It aims to be student-oriented, both in terms of its operation and activities, which currently include an annual student conference panel on current security topics and roundtable discussions with experts in the field.
In addition, the Centre provides opportunity for MUP students to become research assistants in projects exploring security-related topics.
Ibero-American Centre (IAC) at Metropolitan University Prague is a platform for research and expertise encouraging interdisciplinary examination of the Americas. The Centre was founded in 2009 to promote research and teaching on the Americas in the University.
The Centre's staff and students are involved in research across a wide range of disciplines, including history, international relations, politics, anthropology, economics, and cultural studies. We at IAC approach the Americas as a politically, historically and culturally differentiated and complex region with different levels of implication in the international arena.
In addition to offering a set of courses on Latin American Studies and its own Certificate in Latin-American Studies, the Centre sponsors research projects, organizes conferences and invites scholars from universities around the world, as well as practitioners to speak at IAC‘s round tables. IAC places great value on the maintenance and expansion of its institutional and personal links with the academic community in the Southern and Northern part of the Americas, as well as with relevant centers of excellence in Europe.
The institute for Legal Protection of Industrial Property aims to conduct creative research activities in the field of legal protection of industrial property. It contributes to the constant improvement of the Bachelor’s Degree study programme of Industrial Property and the Master’s Degree study programme of Industrial and Regional Relations in Industrial Property. The Institute focuses on lifelong learning programmes for patent and trademark attorneys and other experts in the area of industrial property rights, who work in the industry, conduct research or engage in commercial activities in the field.
The Centre for Studies of International Economic Relations was established as a research institute affiliated with the MUP Department of International Trade. Its objective is to develop research in the area of international economic relations in the Czech Republic. The Centre focuses on sectoral and territorial analyses of changes in international trade, analyses of changes in movement of international capital, and the analyses of processes within the global economy and its segments. The Centre devotes special attention to the economies of developing countries that are playing an increasingly important role in international and economic relations. In addition to research, the Centre organises round table discussions, conferences and expert seminars for both students and scholars.
Centre for Media Culture Studies is a scientific organisation of Media studies department at MUP, integrating experts from the domain of media studies and focusing on the survey of public communicational practices in the milieu of historical and actual forms of Czech media culture. This research orientation tries to find out how intensively are the media practices determinated by contemporary settings of discourse regulatives (censorship, surveillance, critics etc) and politically privileged modes of mass communication (normalization, americanisation, globalisation etc).
