Food costs in Poland

Food is generally cheaper to buy in supermarkets than in small shops. Shops are generally open 8 am – 6 pm Monday to Friday. On Saturday, usual opening hours are from 8 am to 12 am but increasingly more shops are staying open for longer hours seven days a week. Various small shops and supermarkets stay open late at night. Generally small shops are closed on Sundays but larger stores and supermarkets are usually open for part of the day. To have an idea of cost, look at the table below.

Transport costs in Poland

Expats should not find transport in the Czech Republic to be very expensive. Both public transport and petrol are relatively inexpensive.

There are a variety of different passes available for the public transport system in the Czech Republic. A 24-hour pass costs about 4 EUR, a three-day pass is 11 EUR and a one-month pass is 20 EUR. This means that expats can get excellent value for money if they buy a monthly pass and use public transport regularly. 

Taxis are more expensive, with a journey from the airport to Prague city centre costing 20 EUR and a short journey within the city costing about 10 EUR.

Entertainment

Eating out at restaurants in the Czech Republic costs around the same as it would in the rest of Europe. Alcohol and tobacco, however, are less expensive. 

Dinner and a movie will set expats back about 13 EUR per person. A mixed drink costs about 3 EUR and a shot is about 2 EUR.
